How Does Invisalign Work?

It’s a question our patients often ask us, so today, we’ll talk you through the treatment process for this popular clear brace. Along the way, we’ll capture some of the benefits of Invisalign, helping you make the choice about whether it’s the right treatment for you.

Step 1: Consultation

The first stage on your Invisalign journey is a consultation here at our dental practice, serving Liskeard. It helps us ensure that the treatment is suitable, and gives us the opportunity to check over your mouth, teeth and gums to ensure they’re in tip-top condition for treatment.

Step 2: Treatment begins

The next stage involves taking scans of your smile – 3D impressions – that serve to create a picture of your current smile and how it could look with Invisalign treatment. In fact, this part of the process can show you every single stage of your treatment and how teeth will move and change throughout. That’s because Invisalign is based on incremental straightening.

Step 3: Wearing your aligners

Next up is wearing your new Invisalign aligners. These are clear braces, moulded from acrylic, that create a comfortable fit around your teeth while being almost invisible to others. Aligners are worn for two weeks before changing to another set. This is because the teeth are moved little by little. Don’t forget that during your treatment, you’ll be able to track all your progress on the handy Invisalign app.

Step 4: Results

You’re now ready to reveal! After months of hard work, your new smile will be ready – and you’ll join the list of happy patients from our dental practice who have successfully been treated with Invisalign braces. It’s possible you may need a few refinements – extra aligners – to create that perfect smile, but otherwise, feel free to show off and sparkle!

Step 5: Maintenance

Your lovely new smile will need a bit of help to stay straight. Retainers will be made to fit your new smile alignment, which you’ll need to wear as directed for simple smile maintenance. In many cases, patients eventually transition to wearing retainers at night-time only, so there could be little impact on your day-to-day life.
